Confidence And Arrogance.
Confidence is believing in and liking oneself. Arrogance is expecting everyone else to do so. Arrogance is usually the result of the absence of confidence.
My friend Jim and I, both nice polite boys, played as a duo for a long time. We experimented with acting arrogantly for a week, we were appalling, and we wee treated so much better by venues and bookers and the like. People actually respond well to it because they are used to it. They don't know what to do with polite. We found we didn't like ourselves much and went back to normal, a disturbing result from our social investigation.
Interesting. I wonder if the folks at the venues and the bookers would have described you (during that week) as 'arrogant' or 'confident and in charge.' I wonder how the social experiment would work if a woman tried on the 'arrogant shoes' for a week. And no, I'm not going to try it. *laugh*
Yes. Low self esteem has many faces. Arrogance is one of them.

ReplyDeleteGo on, I dares you!
ReplyDeleteIt was fun, training humans to behave.
I think women usually display their neurosis in much more charming ways.
