The Lovable Rogue.

Aah, the ignorant, loud mouthed fool who passes for a "character" in my culture. He is sitting at the next table, a long suffering male friend and two equally idiotic women hanging off every inaccurate word. He is killing me.

Many of my beautiful female friends fell for this guy, some married him. All look back and wonder what they were thinking, all were asked what they were thinking at the time and ignored the question. These guys keep up the supply of booze and pot for six months, until their stories run out, by then it is too late, she is wearing a ring, a promise has been made and he won't let her forget it.

It's all a con, the oldest, saddest con there is. Talk loud, talk often, back it up with some cash and watch them fall. Any man without dignity can perform this trick. Like all cons they are found out soon enough, once they have what they want they don't care. There is a gullible girl born every minute, the con works, they just run it again, get better at it.

I've seen otherwise brilliant women fall for this schtick, accomplished people with much to offer, to share with a loving man. Ego is their flame the loud mouthed ignorant dick just stirs the coals. At my age I meet these women now, slightly broken, afraid, unable to step up to romance when it is pure and honest. Many choose to fall for a different con instead, the spiritual con, the money con, the security con. Their ego and confidence ebb and flow, they believe they are better off alone, then fall like teenage girls when it gets hard.

These confidence tricksters of love do so much damage, and the damage lasts. They prey upon the best in women, their desire for excitement and love. The honest man spends more time repairing damage than he does being loved, eventually gives up and seeks an unbroken, younger woman.

I want to stand up and warn the two young lovelies who are competing for the attention of a scam artist. I know they wouldn't listen, couldn't understand the words. I at least want to correct one of the one thousand misconceptions and incorrect facts he has spouted already. I wholeheartedly want to tell him to talk less loudly so I don't have to suffer his schtick.

He is playing the lovable rogue, and they are loving him for it. He is killing me.
